Staying Motivated In A Time Of Crisis

It's a weird time everywhere in the world. COVID-19 is keeping people at bay and making it hard to continue our normal lives. I've noticed that it's hard to keep going with the thought that there isn't a certain direction that the future is headed towards.

I've piled up some tips to continue staying motivated at times like these.

Be Thankful

It's easy to get lost in the endless spiral of negativity that there's nothing you can do to alleviate the stress from this situation. But try to pinpoint things to be thankful for! It doesn't have to be something grand, like getting a car. I started keeping a gratitude journal where I write down three things that I'm thankful for every day. If three is too much, then just opt for one. You'll be surprised that there is always one thing you can write about :)

Stick To A Routine

What staying indoors all the time (due to lockdown) did to me was that I lost complete control of my daily routine. I was feeling tired and demotivated to do even the simplest of tasks. Only when I set up a routine and stuck to it, I was able to find the energy to keep going. It might look different from the one you're used to, but sometimes, change is necessary to adapt to a new lifestyle. That doesn't make the new lifestyle any less important than your original one!

Find A Hobby

You know what having an abundance of time is good for? Hobby building! You can develop a hobby that you already have or even seek out a new one. Either way, this will take your mind off of worries about the future and help you enjoy the moments that you have right now. It's okay to take one step at a time — it's even better to take that step while having some fun!

Spend time with loved ones

This has proven difficult for me with flights being cancelled and I'm sure that many people will agree. However, we're now living in the digital era, meaning that our loved ones are quite literally a phone call (or video call) away. It might also be a good idea to talk to the people you trust about any issues or worries that keep coming back to you. You might be relieved just to talk about it, or they might even come up with a solution that you hadn't thought of before!
