Ever since I came to the US, I've been quite fond of Halloween. That's a lie. I've been quite enthusiastic about the costume aspect of Halloween. I was the Queen of Chess (like the chess piece) freshman year, then Astrid from How to Train Your Dragon. These were both amazing costumes, and I didn't want to fall short of their quality.

This year, I knew exactly what I wanted to be since May. Kiki, from the Ghibli movie, Kiki's Delivery Service. I hadn't actually watched the whole movie, but I loved the visuals of that movie and thought my aesthetics would match perfectly with the character's.

Perhaps it's because I've worked on musicals and plays, but I'm very particular about making the costume as close to the original as possible. I don't buy "ready-to-wear" costumes on Amazon because they usually look really tacky. So, what I usually do is start shopping for all the items I need for the costume (from the main clothes to the smallest details of accessories) months in advance. I'm also very keen on being able to reuse at least some parts of my costume so that it doesn't go to waste. So the blue dress will definitely be seeing the light more.

And.... tada!! My friend helped me take some great photos! On the ones where I'm on the broom, off the ground, am I flying? Perhaps. A witch never tells her secrets ;)

It was an added bonus that the weather was pretty warm. Or else I would have had to put a coat over this wonderful costume. And one realization: brooms really do a great job of clearing up leaves! It's a little random, but I had so much fun sweeping the path that I would walk on.

My biggest win today was when my friend told me that during a meeting she attended, the icebreaker prompt was to have each person talk about the best costume they had seen that day. Apparently, someone in the meeting (whom I don't know) brought me up! An upperclassman in a cute Kiki costume! I was also happy whenever people stopped to compliment how good my costume was.
