Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light. - Helen Keller
I've been in a summer camp called 'CTY' (Centre for Talented Youth) and so far, it's been great. The camp is hosted in Stanford, a wonderful campus in San Francisco, and the course I'm taking is very interesting. But for me, there's another reason why this camp is so great.
I had actually never been to a camp that went on for 3 weeks. The fact that I had to stay at a dormitory all alone with my parents in Korea seemed too much for me. Still, I'm glad that my mum was able to persuade me in the end, because if she didn't, I wouldn't have met Serena, a friend for life.
Serena was my hall-mate as well as my classmate. I first saw her in the hall meeting we had, and thought that she would be a good companion throughout the days at camp. I asked her where she was from and what she liked doing the best. When she told me that she loved books, I instantly knew we were going to get along.
Even though we used separate rooms, we both didn't have a roommate. That made it easier for us to hang out without any disturbances. We mostly talked about our passion for reading and drawing as well as writing stories. It was as if I found my other half, another me who was living in the opposite side of the world. It didn't take long for us to do everything together, whether it was eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner, doing activities, doing group work, or just hanging out.
She was a quiet girl from the outside, but when I got to know her better, we never stopped chatting! I was so wonder-struck that someone had such similar (I might as well say the same) hobbies and personalities.
I can't wait to spend more time with her!
